Robot Starter Kits

Two Robot Starter Kits provide everything you need to create a starter robot, powered by hobby servo motors. Choose either: Option 1, a Robot with with a Microcontroller and Sensors; or Option 2, a Robot with a Radio Control Kit. The robot frame is available in five colors: Black, Blue, Red, Gold, or Silver. Please specify when ordering.

OPTION 1
Micro Controller & Sensors
With Option 1, you receive a XIPMods Master Module, which can be programmed to control the servo motors, enabling your robot to execute movements and turns and trace precise patterns on the floor. An infrared distance sensor and two infrared reflectance sensors are also included, allowing autonomous feedback and control. The distance sensor keeps the robot from bumping into walls and objects in its path, and the reflectance sensors keep the robot from falling down stairs (or off tables). The reflectance sensors also give the robot the ability to track lines.

Powered by the ATMega168 microcontroller, the Master Module features a built-in programming connection, six digital input ports, six analog input ports, six output ports, and a network connection for interfacing with other device-driver modules. The Master Module makes a terrific standalone controller for servo robots, and it is needed for all projects involving the XIPMods expansion modules.

The Master Module supplies power to the expansion modules through the RJ-25 connector cables. The Master Module may be powered by four AA alkaline batteries, four AA rechargeable batteries, or by a five-cell rechargeable battery pack. Please specify either a battery holder (for your own alkaline or rechargeable AA batteries) or the five-cell rechargeable battery pack and charger (a $50 upcharge) when ordering.

OPTION 2
Radio Control Kit
Radio Control Kit - No programming required. With this option, you get a Four-Channel FM Radio Transmitter, featuring high-quality precision gimbals with stick length and tension ATV (Adjustable Travel Volume) on Channels 1 and 2. ATV limits or extends the maximum throw of a servo. It has five LED battery indicators with a low battery alarm. The Four-Channel Radio Control Transmitter option includes a small screwdriver and an instruction manual.
